What Austin homeowners ask about cooling.

AC question we didn't cover? Ask a technician.

What size AC do I need?

It depends on the home, not just the square footage. Insulation, windows, sun exposure and ductwork all change the answer, which is why we do a load calculation instead of matching the old unit.

How long does an AC last in Austin?

Plan on about 12 to 15 years. Austin systems run more hours than most, so past 12 years efficiency drops and major parts such as the compressor start to fail.

My AC uses R-22. Does that matter?

Yes. R-22 refrigerant is no longer produced, so every leak gets more expensive to recharge. On an older R-22 system needing a coil or compressor, replacement usually makes more sense.
