Heat pump or furnace?

Heat pump

  • Cools and heats with one outdoor unit
  • Runs efficiently through mild Austin winters
  • Often qualifies for the largest rebates

Gas furnace

  • Gets a carbon monoxide check every service
  • Needs a fall check before the first front
  • Pairs with a separate AC

What Austin homeowners ask about heating.

Not sure which system you have? Ask a technician.

Do I need a furnace in Austin, or will a heat pump do?

For most Austin homes a heat pump covers both cooling and heating, because winters are short and mild. A gas furnace paired with an AC still makes sense where gas is already in place. We compare both on the quote.

When should I get a heating check?

In the fall, before the first real cold front. Most no-heat calls land in the same 48 hours, and a check catches dirty flame sensors and weak ignitors first.

What does backup heat do on a heat pump?

It adds electric heat on the coldest nights, when the heat pump alone can't keep up. It's expensive to run, so the thermostat should call for it only when it's truly needed.
