Furnace and heating repair in Austin
Austin only needs heat a few weeks a year, which is why it's so often broken the first cold night. We fix gas furnaces, heat pumps and electric heat, and check for safety issues every time.
Common heating problems we fix
Furnace won't light
Usually a dirty flame sensor, failed hot-surface ignitor or a pressure switch. Common after a furnace sits unused all summer.
Blowing cold air
On a heat pump it can be stuck in cooling or defrost. On a furnace it's often an ignition problem or an overheating safety tripping.
Burning smell on first use
A short dusty smell is normal the first time each year. A smell that lingers, or any smell of gas, is not. Leave the house and call the gas company first.

Get ahead of the first cold front
A fall check pays off
Most no-heat calls come in the same 48 hours, right when the first real cold front lands. A quick fall tune-up catches dirty flame sensors and weak ignitors before you need them.
Freeze prep
Before a hard freeze, check that your heat pump's backup heat works, keep outdoor units clear of ice and debris, and know where your gas shutoff is. Our maintenance plan covers the system check for you.
Why does my furnace smell like burning when I turn it on?
Dust settles on the burners and heat exchanger over summer and burns off the first time the furnace runs. That smell should fade within an hour. If it doesn't, or you smell gas or electrical burning, turn it off and call.
Do you check for carbon monoxide?
Yes. Every gas furnace service includes a carbon monoxide check and a heat exchanger inspection. Every home with gas appliances should also have working CO detectors.
My heat pump is blowing cold air. Is it broken?
Not necessarily. Heat pumps run a defrost cycle in cold weather that briefly blows cooler air. If it lasts more than 10 to 15 minutes or the house is losing heat, call us.
